After a very disapointing season, the club got relegated to the second division for the second time in its history. But it managed to keep most of its players, including World Cup goalkeeper Gonda, and J.League's best striker Thiago Santana. The team had very strong weapons to get back to the first division right away ! Unfortunately, Shimizu missed the chance twice : they ended up one goal away from direct promotion in the last regular game, and couldn't score against Tokyo Verdy in the playoffs, meaning that they would stay in J2 at least one more season...

Puma gave the team three uniforms sharing the same design : a flat world map made of rounded lines, perspective downwards. The background is composed of a grid, cut by invisible chevrons heading downwards as well. The shirt features a polo collar, which hadn't happened since the 2013 season. Home colors are orange, dark orange (map) with navy bits (collar and cuffs), away colors are light grey, a new shade of light mint for the map and navy bits. The third uniform is completely navy with darker navy for the map and orange bits. Following the experiment with the 2022 summer uniform, all the front and sleeve sponsors removed their boxes or outlines, and went all white on the third kit. A fourth uniform was released during summer celebrating Shimizu FC's 55 anniversary, in a plain light mint color with a darker diagonal sash showing a part of the same world map as the three other kits. The shorts and socks were the same as the away uniform.
